I am a debut author from Kent, England, writing voice-driven, commercial fiction, often with a darkly comedic edge, or sometimes, just plain dark.
I like complicated, messy, female protagonists with questionable morals. I love to write about ordinary people finding themselves in extraordinary circumstances, and, like many authors, my favourite two words are ‘What if?’
My debut novel, ‘A Pregnant Pause’, is about a woman so desperate to escape her soul-crushing job, that she concocts a wild plan that is as desperate as it is brilliant: she’ll fake a pregnancy for a year of paid maternity leave.
If you enjoyed the heart and humour of Fleabag, the unscrupulous anti-heroine of Yellowface, the messy millennial protagonist of Queenie, and the spiky protagonist of Sorrow and Bliss, then ‘A Pregnant Pause’ will likely appeal to you. And, well, if you’d be willing to try just about anything to escape your job, then you’re going to enjoy meeting Kat.
